Harrisia
I acquired this plant from a small collection some fifteen years ago. It has repeatedly
flowered for us producing these lovely 10 inch (25cm) nocturnal flowers which are sweetly
scented. Since planting it out it has produced even larger numbers of flowers. I am not
absolutely sure which genus it belongs to. I have tentitively identified it as Harrisa guelichii, however
it is much more erect than the other Harrisias I know such as H.martinii or H.bonplandii
not needing support until over 6 foot (2m) in height. The stems are mostly 3 or sometimes 4
angled, about 1 inch (3cm) in diameter and they have only very short spines. It usually sets seed
pods which are persitant but unlike the other Harrisias I mentioned these remain green.
