Aloe asperifolia (Pictures 573 and 579)

Aloe asperifolia (Stapff) is an endemic and protected aloe which is distributed in North and Central Namibia. (asperifolia means rough leaves). It forms circular groups and therefore the local name is "Kraalaalwijn" which means "growing in a ring". Another local name is "heksekringe" = witch- rings.

This plant grows only in very dry sandy and lime holding substrate and leaves are covered with a grey waxy powder. Flowers are in the wet season, march-april with pinkish-red flowers.
