Many Garden Centers and other retail outlets frequently have cacti and succulents for sale usually obtained from a wholesale supplier. It is unfortunately very common that the staff in the retail outlet have little if any knowledge of how to look after cacti and succulents and they only too often are kept in far too dark conditions, are either overwatered or not watered at all and become contaminated with pests such as mealy bugs. The best plants are likely to obtained when fresh supplies have been received or in outlets with a good stock turnover. Some wholesalers attach artificial flowers to cacti. Avoid these plants because the glue or pins used will have damaged the plants. Cactus flowers are mostly pretty short lived and many will only open in bright sunlight so be cautious of any 'ever lasting' flowers. If you know of a good source (anywhere in the world) please send us the name of the outlet and its geographical location. Also have a look at the Cactus and Succulent Plants at Ebay.
